Most OSHC guides stop at “which provider should I pick”, which is a pre-departure question. This site starts after you land: what to actually click when your visa changes, how a real claim goes through, when a school-nominated provider can be overridden, and how refunds are calculated. No commission on insurer recommendations, and no insurer pays for placement here.
How this site works
Pick the task, not the product
Everything is filed by what you are trying to do — renew, claim, change, refund — instead of by insurer marketing.
Follow the actual screens
Walkthroughs describe the portal steps, the documents asked for, and the wait times you should expect.
Verify before you commit
Every page carries a verified date. Policies change — confirm the detail with your insurer before you act on it.
What you can do here
Eight in-country tasks, each with its own set of walkthroughs.

Upgrade or downgrade cover, add a partner or dependent.
Multi-visa transitions
500 → 485 → TR → PR : OSHC vs OVHC vs Medicare reciprocal.

In-country claim experience: Bupa, Medibank, Allianz, nib, AHM.
Nominated provider
When a school auto-assigns you a provider — how to keep, change, or refund.

Common questions
Can I renew or change my OSHC myself, without an agent?
Yes. Renewals, plan changes and provider switches are all done in the insurer’s own member portal or over their phone line. Our walkthroughs describe those screens step by step so you can do it without paying anyone.
Do I have to stay with the provider my school signed me up with?
A school-arranged policy is a starting point, not a lock-in. What matters to your visa is that you hold continuous OSHC for the required period. Check your enrolment terms and confirm the switch with both insurers before cancelling anything.
What happens to my OSHC when my visa changes?
OSHC is tied to the student visa. When you move onto a different visa, the cover you need can change — and so can the refund on what you already paid. Read the multi-visa walkthroughs first, then confirm your own dates with the insurer and Home Affairs.
Is this site run by an insurer?
No. We do not sell insurance and we do not represent any insurer. Editorial review is by a verified Australian education agent. Content here is general information, not personal financial or migration advice.
